Three years after her mother Darnell Donerson, brother Jason Hudson and 7-year-old nephew Julian King were brutally murdered, Jennifer Hudson is finally on her way to getting closure.

On Monday, jury selection is set to begin in the trial of William Balfour, Hudson's former brother-in-law, who stands accused of fatally shooting her family members at their Chicago home in 2008.

Balfour, who is the stepfather of the late 7-year-old King, is also charged with one count of home invasion. Denying all charges, he has pleaded not guilty.

Named as part of the potential witness list, Hudson, 30, is expected to appear regularly in court once opening statements begin April 23, according to CNN.

"It's all a blur, it was surreal," Hudson said on a VH1 Behind the Music special in 2008 of her family tragedy. "It was like I was outside of myself."

Crediting her fiance David Otunga and their son David, Jr., with helping her heal, Hudson says she strives to be the type of mother to her son that Donerson was to her.
