There’s a fierce fashionista underneath Carly Rae Jepsen’s bubblegum pop exterior.
Don’t believe Us? Check out the “Call Me Maybe” crooner’s first major fashion mag cover, for the October issue of Canada’s FASHION (which hits newsstands September 10). Jepsen, 26, stuns in a feathered Alexander McQueen frock, Louboutin heels and earrings by Rita Tesolin, and her usually sleek hairdo gets some edge thanks to a wavy, sexy style.
In her chat with the publication, Jepsen opens up about her breakout success this past year — but insists she’s not looking to follow in the footsteps of any other female pop sensations.
“Nobody can do Britney [Spears] again,” explains Jepsen, a Canadian Idol runner-up whose earworm single was made popular in the States thanks in part to Justin Bieber’s enthusiastic endorsement. “She did a great job at it. I just want to be the best Carly Rae I can be.”
The Mission, B.C. native — who recently moved on from boyfriend Jordi Ashworth, the guy who inspired “Call Me Maybe,” with musician Matthew Koma — also opens up about what she looks for in a potential partner.
Admitting that her new album focuses on her “fascination with the complications of being attracted to something you shouldn’t be,” the singer also explains what qualities she finds most appealing.
“I definitely have a little attraction to bad guys,” she reveals. “But they have to be sweethearts underneath. After all, I like to be treated well!”
