A generation mourned the loss of pop icon Davy Jones, who died February 29 at the age of 66–and his four daughters say they're grateful for the outpouring of affection from fans paying tribute to their deceased father.

"Our family has been greatly comforted by the support and love of everyone who reached out to us," Talia Jones, Sarah McFadden, Jessica Cramer, and Annabel Jones told Us Weekly in a statement Thursday. "Knowing that so many people around the world were so affected by our dad's life and music makes us feel connected to you all. You are in our thoughts and hearts."

The Monkees' frontman–who passed away unexpectedly after suffering a heart attack–was laid to rest Wednesday during a small ceremony in Florida.

Jones' former bandmates–Peter Tork, Micky Dolenz, and Michael Nesmith–opened up earlier this week to Billboard.com about making the tough decision not to attend their friend's funeral.

"My understanding is they want to avoid a media circus and…the family wants to keep it very, very low-key and very, very private," Dolenz said. "And you can imagine as soon as one or two or any of us were to show up, it would very quickly be degraded into something that I don't think his immediate family would want to deal with."

Continued Dolenz, "I'm kind of respecting [the Jones family's] wishes, whatever their wishes may be."
