DeAnna Pappas doesn't think Frank is a bad guy for leaving Ali Fedotowsky on Monday's Bachelorette because he still has feelings for a girlfriend back home.

"The one thing I do give him credit for is that he was brutally honest… and his tears seemed very real and very genuine," Pappas, who starred on season 5 of the ABC drama, tells UsMagazine.com. "He did seem like he felt horrible about what he was putting Ali through."

"Everybody's so mad at him for doing this, but, to an extent, I think producers told him this was how it needed to be done, and he had to break up with her on camera to give the viewers an explanation," continues Pappas.

But she doesn't exactly approve of Frank leading Ali on for so long into the season.

"If he was a real man, he could have gone home early on — especially if he was having second guesses and missed his ex girlfriend," said Pappas. "He shouldn't have done that to Ali and make her fall more and more in love with him."

But now, Pappas says, Ali will be able to move on: "If Frank hadn't showed up in person and been as brutally honest as he was… I don't think that she would have had the closure that I think she deserves."

Frank's leaving paved the way for Chris L. to remain on the show, Pappas believes.

The two "have so much more adult and such a more grown-up relationship," says Pappas. "I think he's the total package."

As for Roberto, who Us Weekly has reported is the frontrunner to propose in the Aug. 2 finale, taped in Tahiti? "With Roberto, there's just so much chemistry there, but I think chemistry only goes so far, and then your relationship changes…."

"When you meet someone, you're so attracted to them and so in love, but it grows from that. You become best friends, you become partners and different things. I'm not sure that can happen with Roberto as I already see it transpiring with Chris L.," says Pappas.
