Farewell, Uncle Leo.
Actor Len Lesser — perhaps best known as "Uncle Leo" on Seinfeld — passed away on Wednesday at age 88. The actor died in his Burbank, Calif. home of pneumonia related to cancer.
Known on the NBC smash for his catchphrase "Jerry! Hello!" (his character even had the words tattooed on his hands), Lesser is survived by daughter Michele, son David, daughter-in-law Julie, and grandkids Jonathan, Kayla and Mayah.
"Heaven got a great comedian and actor today. The outpouring of sympathy we've already received has been amazing and is so greatly appreciated," the star's daughter Michele said in a statement.
Lesser's Seinfeld fame was just one highlight in a six-decade career that included over 500 film, TV and stage appearances.
Born in New York, the actor appeared in such films as Birdman of Alcatraz (1962), Kelly's Heroes (1970), Papillon (1973), The Outlaw Josey Wales (1976) and Death Hunt (1981).
Among his small screen triumphs over the years: Roles in Get Smart, That Girl, The Munsters, The Monkees, The Rockford Files, Bonanza, Ironside, Kojak, thirtysomething, Caroline in the City, ER, Alfred Hitchcock Presents, Quincy, Mad About You, All in the Family, Boy Meets World and Everybody Loves Raymond.
