Michael J. Fox is heading back to the small screen.
NBC announced Monday that it had picked up the former Spin City star’s new sitcom, loosely based on his life, for a full, 22-episode season. (NBC is the network where Fox, 51, originally got his start, playing Alex P. Keaton on the beloved Family Ties.)
“I’m extremely pleased to be back at NBC with a great creative team and a great show,” the Emmy and Golden Globe winning actor said in a statement about the still-untitled program (scheduled to make its debut in Fall 2013). “Bob Greenblatt and all the folks at the network have given me a warm welcome home, and I’m excited to get to work.”

Fox back to NBC is a supreme honor and we are thrilled that one of the great comedic television stars is coming home again,” Robert Greenblatt, Chairman of NBC Entertainment, shared. “From the moment we met with Michael to hear his unique point of view about this new show, we were completely captivated and on board. Easy A‘s Will Gluck and Arrested Development‘s Sam Laybourne have both signed on to executive produce and co-create the series, which will tell the story of a father of three doing his best to manage his family, his career, and his Parkinson’s Disease.
