Kate Middleton Pregnant? Why She Refused Peanut Paste

Does passing on peanuts mean that Duchess Kate is pregnant?

Not necessarily. Since the 29-year-old royal declined to sample peanut paste during her and Prince William's Nov. 2 visit to a Denmark UNICEF distribution center, rumors have been rampant that the couple is expecting a child. (Although Kate is not allergic to peanuts, pregnant women are often advised to avoid peanut products to prevent allergies in their babies-to-be.) But a royal insider tells the new Us Weekly — on stands now — why this might not be the case.

"She's not comfortable eating in front of cameras," the insider said. "What if she didn't like it and made a face? That expression would then be on every newspaper."

A spokesman for the couple tells Us the policy is "to never confirm or deny [pregnancy] rumors," but an insider insists: "If and when there is an announcement to make, it will be made by the palace as soon as it's safe to."

Should Will and Kate have a daughter as their firstborn, a new ruling will allow her to someday be queen. Upending centuries of royal law, leaders of the 16 countries that recognize the British monarchy recently agreed that a firstborn daughter should be able to ascend the throne even if she has younger brothers.
