3 Ways to Work the Two-Tone Nail Trend

Celebrities like Katy Perry, Katherine Heigl and Adele are painting on contrasting nail colors to make their tips sparkle.

While the "Firework" singer and the One for the Money actress have been painting bright hues on tips and nudes on nail bases, Adele stood out by sporting different colors on the undersides and the tops of her nails.

"It's a bold way to accessorize," Nina Werman of NYC's Valley salon, where Perry is a client, explains to Us Weekly. Her advice: "If you work a corporate job, tone it down with a neutral combo like tan and brown (try Dior Nail Lacquer in Sienna, $23, sephora.com)."

Adele's mani may be a bit more difficult to replicate, since you'll need talon-like nails in order for the Christian Louboutin red sole effect to be noticed.

"Use artificial nails or tips instead," Michelle Toma Olson, creator and founder of Nailtini tell Us. "Paint the underside of each nail/tip with two coats of classic red like Nailtini Bloody Mary ($13, cvs.com), and while waiting for them to dry, file your natural nail down so it can't be seen over the tip of your finger." Then, paint the nail with any color you choose, from classic black to silver glitter. (Manicurist Mike Pocock used Ciate Paint Pot in Jewel, $14, cite.co.uk, on Adele at the Grammys.)
