Tom Cruise could use a hug or two.
On Tuesday — the day after he and Katie Holmes announced their speedy divorce settlement — the 50-year-old was photographed for the first time in over a week, hitting the June Lake, Calif. set of Oblivion. (Cruise had been shooting the sci-fi thriller in Iceland when he got word of Holmes’ divorce filing.)
And the cast and crew of Oblivion were sympathetic to the suddenly single father of three; photographs show Cruise’s colleagues giving him big hugs for his post-divorce return to work.
Indeed, Cruise was famously blindsided by Holmes’ June 28 filing after nearly six years of marriage. But, in the end, the couple came to terms, with Holmes getting primary legal custody of daughter Suri, 6.
“Tom will be allowed to see Suri but there are guidelines for the visits,” a source explained to Us Weekly. Tom is really sad at the thought of not being able to see Suri . . . You can tell he really loves his kids.” (Cruise is also father to Connor, 17, and Isabella, 19, with ex-wife Nicole Kidman).
Meanwhile, his ex Holmes, 33, is also ready to dive into work; she just wrapped a modern retelling of Chekhov’s The Seagull, and will play (fittingly!) a single mom in Molly, which she co-wrote. Her fashion line Holmes & Yang will also have its New York Fashion Week runway debut this fall.
“She has her career back and her daughter. She will be a huge star now,” a Holmes source told Us. “This was all played so well. Katie is very happy with how it all came out.”
