Hollywood was quick to react to Friday's sad news of Gary Coleman's death.
The actor — best known for his eight-season stint as wisecracking Arnold Jackson on sitcom Diff'rent Strokes — passed away at age 42 in Provo, Utah.
Like Coleman, Ricky Schroeder was also the child star of his own hit 1980s sitcom (Silver Spoons), and the two young actors often crossed paths.
"Gary can now have the peace he found so little of in life," Schroeder told UsMagazine.com in a statement. In addition to serious health problems, Coleman endured legal and financial woes in his adult life; in February, he pled guilty to misdemeanor criminal mischief related to an April 2009 domestic violence incident at his home.
Actress Charlotte Rae starred alongside Coleman on Diff'rent Strokes, playing housekeeper Mrs. Garrett (before moving on to spinoff Facts of Life).
"I said a prayer for him this morning after hearing about his condition," Rae told TMZ. (Coleman suffered an intercranial hemorrhage on Wednesday and slipped into a coma the following day.) "Gary was so loving, so charming. He was the big star of the show…He was the reason the show was a hit."
"mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be actors," 80s' stalwart John Stamos Tweeted sadly.
Other formers child stars paid tribute to Coleman via Twitter with "Rest in Peace" Tweets: Nick Cannon, Alyssa Milano, Melissa Joan Hart and Soleil Moon Frye.
"I am so sorry to hear the sad news," wrote Paula Abdul. "My heartfelt condolences go out to his entire family."
Also paying their respects: Katy Perry, Cash Warren, Nicky Hilton and Audrina Patridge.
Coleman's family — including his wife of three years Shannon Price — acknowledged thanks for the well-wishers since his ordeal was made public Thursday.
"Family members express their appreciation and gratitude for the support and prayers that have been expressed for Gary and for them," a hospital rep said in a statement.
"At times it may not have been apparent, but he always had fond memories of being an entertainer and appreciates his fans for all their support over the years," the rep added.
