Prince William, Kate Adopt – a Baby Penguin!

Prince William and Kate Middleton

One week after tying the knot, Prince William and his bride, Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, are wasting no time when it comes to expanding their family.

William, 28, and Catherine, 29, are the proud new parents of a baby penguin!

The royals — who make their home in Anglesey — adopted the baby animal, named Acorn, The Chester Zoo announced Friday.

Given as a wedding gift, officials at the northwest England zoo say the animal will remain in his habitat with 49 other Humbolt penguins.

"Hopefully the happy couple will come and see little Acorn playing in his pool very soon," a zoo spokesman said Friday.

The lucky animal beat out 400 other species of penguins in a vote conducted on the zoo's social networking sites. The Humbolt penguin received more than 20 percent of the votes, thus making it the animal the couple will sponsor.

"It's a real honour to be able to boast Prince William and Kate as penguin adopters," says the spokesman.

The just-married couple are already settling in well to domestic life after their lavish Westminster Abbey nuptials April 29.

Although the pair received a new surname on their wedding day — Cambridge — the newlyweds have private names for one another at home.

Seconds another royal insider: "They'll be a very low-key couple. They want to be very down to earth."
