Gwyneth Paltrow: country music star?
Thanks to a recent web leak, fans saw and heard the actress singing "Country Strong," the title, country-twanged track from a movie out in December — and Paltrow, 38, got good reviews.
But the star told Entertainment Weekly she's not aiming for a radio hit.
"No!" she said, laughing. "What the hell?"
She explained: "I was just singing songs for the movie."
But Paltrow, who crooned the hit "Cruisin'" with Huey Lewis from the 2000 flick Duets, was just too good behind the mike. "When [Sony Music Nashville chair] Joe Galante heard it, he was like, 'No, I want to release this as the single.'" the married mother of two related to EW.
"I was like, 'Excuse me please? What? What is going on?'"
Country music veterans Vince Gill and Patty Griffin provide guest vocals on the track. Paltrow couldn't believe her producer Byron Gallimore snagged the celebrated singers. "He f**ing got Vince Gill to sing on the track! It's crazy…And Patty Griffin…It's amazing," she gushed. "I'm so humbled."
In the film Country Strong, Paltrow plays Kelly Canter, a country music superstar aching for a comeback after rehab, with Tim McGraw playing her husband/manager.
