Is America getting over Sex?

Sex and the City 2 seduced far fewer moviegoers in its opening weekend than the first go-round two years ago.

The flick hauled in $32.1 million over the weekend; in 2008, the first Sex feature opened with $56.8 million. Including the $14.2 million it made on Thursday, the sequel — featuring Carrie Bradshaw and the gang heading to the Middle East — has made $46.3 million.

The poorly reviewed, two-and-a-half hour film didn't even land at the number one spot: that went to Shrek Forever After, which stayed the number one film in the country for the second weekend in a row with a $43.3 million gross from Friday to Sunday.

Jake Gyllenhaal also underperformed: his big-budget action adventure Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time made $30.2 million, landing at number three.

Us Weekly gave Sex and the City 2 just 2 out of 4 stars. ("It's time for the ladies to lock up their Louboutins — for good.") The New York Times says the film "isn't much fun at all," while USA Today slams it as "tasteless."
