Disruption in aisle nine!

Brash 79-year-old comedienne Joan Rivers caused quite a stir at a Burbank, Calif. Costco store Tuesday when the New York Times bestselling author handcuffed herself to a shopping cart to protest the fact that the warehouse is not carrying her book, I Hate Everything…Starting With Me.

Armed with a megaphone and a set of handcuffs, ABC News reports Rivers brought copies of her book — said to be banned by Costo because it features inappropriate parody quotes from Marie Antoinette and Wilt Chamberlain — and began signing them for store patrons.

"This is very frightening and it is truly about the First Amendment," the comedienne told local TV station KABC. "This is America and I don't want to see censorship. This is a store that sells 300 rolls of toilet paper at the same time. And I say any customer that buys 300 rolls of toilet paper deserves a funny book to sit on the toilet and read."

Burbank police spokesman Drew Sugars told The Los Angeles Times the Joan and Melissa: Joan Knows Best star was staging a publicity stunt, and had a camera crew in tow.

Though Rivers refused to leave until police patrol units and a sergeant arrived, no arrests were made and no citations given.

Rivers, who made waves when joking about the late Princess Diana on E!'s Fashion Police last week, says she doesn't want customers to boycott Costco. "I have bought my condoms there and will continue to do so," she told KABC.
