Michael Lohan isn't ready to leave his daughter Lindsay alone.

On Monday, hours after his ex Dina told Us that she wants to keep him away from their daughters Lindsay and Ali via restraining order, the embattled dad's new lawyer says he remains determined to "save and protect his daughter," and is prepared to pursue "legal action" if necessary.

His attorney (and CNN legal analyst) Lisa Bloom tells UsMagazine.com: "Michael has a problem millions of Americans have: what can a parent do when an adult child appears to have a serious alcohol or drug problem?"

Bloom does not mention her client's recent attempt to stage an intervention, or his ex-wife's plans to file for a restraining order "imminently." ("My children are petrified of him," Dina told Us.)

"Michael loves his daughter with all his heart," lawyer Bloom continues. "He has watched along with the rest of us over the past few months as Lindsay has been photographed partying and clubbing night after night, appearing as though she is under the influence of alcohol or substances…With his own two eyes, just last week, he has seen her looking worse than ever."

Naming stars who famously died drug-related deaths, Bloom adds: "Michael is not going to stand idly by and watch his daughter become another Hollywood statistic," noting that he wants to "prevent Lindsay from becoming another Marilyn Monroe, Anna Nicole Smith, Michael Jackson, Heath Ledger, or Corey Haim."

Even though Lindsay is 23, Bloom says Michael still has "a number of legal options" to intervene in his adult daughter's life.

But Michael hopes "none of that will be necessary," Bloom says. He hopes to meet with his eldest daughter soon (with both of their lawyers present) "to come up with an appropriate treatment plan that will allow her to get her life back on course."

During a Monday radio appearance, Michael announced his plans to ask a sentencing judge to force Lindsay into rehab or give him conservatorship — which would put him in control of her finances and other decisions. He also continued to charge that Lindsay is abusing drugs like "Adderall…bipolar medication, she's on anti-depressant medication…it's toxic."

Lindsay has denied using drugs, and told Us last Thursday, "he's nuts!"
