Miley Cyrus has hit a low note: One of her songs is no longer up for a Grammy.
"The Climb," her single from her Hannah Montana: The Movie soundtrack — written by Jessi Alexander and Jon Mabe — received a Grammy nod for best song written for a soundtrack.
But in an unexpected twist, it was announced Thursday that the tune has been pulled because it was not specifically penned for the movie, thereby making it ineligible for the award. (Cyrus' camp withdrew the nomination the day after the Grammy nominations were announced last week, when the error was discovered.)
The nomination will now go to "All Is Love," by Karen O of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. The song — which received the next highest number of votes — was written for Where the Wild Things Are.
The Grammy site does reflect the change, but a spokesperson for O's label confirmed the news to MTV.
"In an unexpected twist, one of the announced Grammy candidates for Best Song written for a Soundtrack has been disqualified after the fact," Matt LaMotte, of O's label Interscope Geffen A&M, said in a statement. "The nomination then goes to the song with the next-highest initial vote count, which is Karen O and the Kids' 'All Is Love.'"
O will now compete against Bruce Springsteen (for his title song for The Wrestler), Beyoncé (and others for the song Once in a Lifetime from "Cadillac Records"), Slumdog Millionaire score writer A.R. Rahman for "Jai Ho," and Paramore's Josh Farro, Hayley Williams and Taylor York for the Twilight song "Decode."
