Katy Perry had a sneaking suspicion that Russell Brand was going to propose before he did. Why?
"Unfortunately, I still Google myself sometimes," the singer, 25, admitted on the Grammy Awards red carpet in L.A. Sunday. "I saw it on Google alerts. I'm going to be honest!"
The British comedian, 34, had a good excuse for all the web reports.
"I was buying rings!" he told Ryan Seacrest during their joint E! red carpet interview.
Brand — who says he's a "changed man" since meeting Perry — made sure that his actual proposal was something to remember.
"There was an elephant involved," he said of the Dec. 31 proposal. "We were on an elephant just before it. We were in india. It was at midnight, and it is not a good idea to be on the back of an elephant during a fireworks display."
Perry, in a Zac Posen gown, added: "They can't tell the difference between an apocalypse and New Year's Eve!"

Although the couple jokingly disagreed about whether they had set a date for their wedding, Brand suggested Seacrest be involved in the ceremony.
"You're the high priest of celebrity culture," he joked. "You could marry us."
