Simon Cowell and Denise Richards have very different interpretations of their ill-fated date many years ago.
After The X Factor judge, 51, told Howard Stern that he and The Real Girl Next Door author were once set up by mutual pals in Beverly Hills, Richards told her Twitter followers that she didn't realize their meet-up was supposed to be romantic.
"I was at a group dinner, eight months pregnant," she wrote Wednesday. "Not sure how that's considered a date! If I was being set up, I didn't know it!"
(Richards has two daughters with ex-husband Charlie Sheen: Sam, 7, and Lola, 6; she adopted a third daughter, Eloise Joni, over the summer.)
Though Cowell was surprised by the actress' pregnancy, he still enjoyed spending time with Richards. "She is gorgeous," he said on Stern's 101 Sirius XM Radio Show. "I liked her a lot, I think she's cute, funny, a bit of a wacko…but I like that."
Had Richards been aware of Cowell's intentions, things may have turned out differently.
"I wish I knew that it was a date!" she tweeted. "He's a hot piece of ass!"
Cowell is currently engaged to makeup artist Mezhgan Hussainy. Richards, who divorced Sheen in 2006, went on to date rockers Richie Sambora and Nikki Sixx. She is currently single.
