David Schwimmer Helps NYPD In East Village Assault and Robbery Case

David Schwimmer
David Schwimmer helped police when the NYPD was trying to get information on a crime scene near his New York City home.

David Schwimmer to the rescue! The Friends actor, 47, lent a hand to the New York Police Department this week when a crime scene took place near his New York City home.

Schwimmer keeps security cameras outside of his East Village pad—devices that came in handy on Monday, May 26, when they recorded footage of an early morning altercation.

According to the New York Post, a scuffle broke out before 6:00am on Monday morning between a 26-year-old man and a transgender prostitute. The paper reports that a fight sparked between the two when the customer refused to pay the escort, who attempted to steal his computer.

The incident reportedly culminated in the pair fighting in the hallway of the building adjacent to Schwimmer's and crashing through the lobby door.

A separate account from the New York Daily News says there was a third person involved, who apparently entered the apartment during the melee, in an attempt to rob the man. The publication says the prostitute and the alleged robber may have planned the robbery.

While those involved in the incident were the police's only sources on the case, Schwimmer invited members of the police force into his home on Monday to view the video taken by his security cameras. The actor also reportedly provided the NYPD with a copy of the tape.
