Katie Holmes is a beauty in black.
Taking a rare night off from parenting duties and play rehearsals — she'll return to the Great White Way in the Broadway play Dead Accounts beginning Nov. 29 — the 33-year-old single mom joined Emma Roberts and Julianna Margulies on the red carpet Oct. 22 for the launch of pal Narciso Rodriguez's Kohl's collection.
The star, whose divorce from Tom Cruise was finalized in August, showed off her slim frame in a form-fitting but elegant Rodriguez-designed black frock with long sleeves and ruching. She completed the look with nude Loeffler Randall shoes, loose waves, and an ebony clutch.
Holmes has been spotted out and about in NYC often since her breakup with Cruise, but usually during the day — and almost always with daughter Suri, 6. Her solo attendance at last night's party is just one of a handful of public appearances she has made recently. Last month, she stepped out to present an award to another designer pal, Carolina Herrera, and to showcase her own clothing line at New York Fashion Week.
In any case, it seems the single life agrees with her. Though she arrived late to the Kohl's event and skipped the interview line, the Holmes and Yang designer seemed calm and relaxed as she posed for photos with Rodriguez and chatted with her fellow guests.
"Katie is in a great place," a source told Us Weekly of the star. "She's an amazing woman who has gone through a lot. She's happier than before and dotes on Suri."
