Katie Holmes raised eyebrows when she haphazardly hiked up the hemline of her floral Louis Vuitton frock for Variety’s Power of Women Luncheon in Beverly Hills Sept. 30.
“Bad choice,” Phillip Bloch, author of The Shopping Diet, sighed of Holmes’ wacky take on the designer dress. “The bottom looks like one person, and the top looks like another.”
It was an odd misstep for the stylish star, who loves clothes so much she started her own line, Holmes & Yang, with longtime stylist Jeanne Yang.
Holmes, 31, herself admits she shouldn’t DIY: “I’ve always loved fabrics . . . [but] I don’t sew very well,” she has said.
How to fix the floral fiasco?
“Adding the wider belt from the runway would have made it classier,” Bloch suggests. “Lose the tights, which are way too heavy for a soft, muted print.”
And as for the fact that it looks like a closet castoff from her fashionista daughter, Suri, 4?
It’s not too far-fetched: She’s Holmes’ top stylist! “She won’t let me leave unless I’m wearing what she wants,” Holmes has said of her tot. “And I want to make her happy!”
