The driver of the truck that plowed into a limo bus carrying Tracy Morgan and several others pleaded not guilty to the charges against him in court on Wednesday, June 11.
Kevin Roper appeared in Middlesex County Superior Court in New Jersey at 3 p.m. ET on Wednesday afternoon to face charges of vehicular homicide and assault by auto in the June 7 crash that killed James McNair and injured Morgan and three others. According to NBC News, Roper did not speak during the arraignment and was released on the $50,000 bail he posted following his arrest over the weekend.
In a criminal complaint, police alleged that Roper had been awake for more than 24 hours at the time of the accident. His truck—a Walmart vehicle—slammed into Morgan's limo bus, causing a six-vehicle pileup on the New Jersey Turnpike.
Comedian McNair, 63, was killed in the crash, and Morgan was hospitalized in critical condition. He's currently convalescing at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, where he is being treated for several injuries, including a broken leg, broken femur, broken nose, and several broken ribs. He's expected to remain in the hospital for several weeks.
"There has been no change in Tracy's condition," his rep told Us Weekly in a statement on Tuesday, June 10. "He remains in critical but stable condition."
