After years of toiling away at Dunder Mifflin, The Office's Dwight Schrute may finally be getting his moment in the sun.

Deadline.com reports NBC is considering a potential spinoff for Rainn Wilson's beloved assistant regional manager character, possibly for a midseason 2013 premiere.

Described as a "family comedy," the spinoff would center around Dwight living and working at his family's beet farm and bed & breakfast.

Though Office diehards are already somewhat familiar with the Schrute farm — Jim and Pam once visited Dwight there — an expanded storyline detailing Dwight's new locale will be introduced later this season.

"[Executive producer] Paul [Lieberstein] and Rainn have been joking for years about Dwight's life on the farm, his family and how ill-suited he is to run a B&B," an Office source told Deadline. "A while ago, it started to feel like a show to them. NBC agreed, [and] it's been further developed to include multiple generations, many cousins and neighbors. At its base it will be about a family farm struggling to survive and a family trying to stay together."

Should the spinoff get a go-ahead, Wilson, 46, is likely to pull double-duty to remain on The Office. If the series earns a ninth season pickup, Dwight would return to Dunder Mifflin before branching out midseason.
