Turns out, Alec Baldwin isn't such a smooth operator, and his new wife Hilaria Thomas, who he wed at NYC's St. Patrick's Old Cathedral on Saturday, knows it first hand!
Recapping how they met in their New York Times wedding announcement, published Sunday, the 30 Rock actor admits that the pickup line he used on Thomas was "none too clever."
The yoga instructor, 28, recounts their February 2011 meeting: "I was standing near the door [of Pure Food and Wine restaurant] with my friends when he walked up and took my hand and said, 'I must know you.'"
"'You must know me?'" Thomas says she quipped, adding that they stood there chatting after his opening line. "And then he gave me his card."
"I never ask women for their phone numbers," Baldwin, 54, tells the paper, confirming that he had indeed given her his digits.
But Thomas wasn't so sure of Baldwin's advances, explaining that she was iffy about their 26-year-age difference rather than his superstar reputation in Hollywood. "I really didn't know if I should call him," she explains, adding that a friend encouraged her to do so.
Together, the couple recounts a cat-and-mouse chase, with each party missing each other's calls, and their first date, which they say included a group of friends. And after dating for a little over a year, Baldwin finally popped the question in April 2012.
"I've dated a lot of people since my divorce, and have thought a lot about what I wanted and what I wanted to do," Baldwin, who was married to actress Kim Basinger from 1993 to 2002, explains. "I thought about it too much, I suppose. I wasn't really ready to take that chance and to act until I met Hilaria."
