John Travolta — whose son Jett died last year at age 16 — tells UsMagazine.com it wasn't easy traveling to Haiti, which was devastated 17 days ago by 7.0-magnitude earthquake.

While there this past week, he and wife Kelly Preston — who flew a jetliner carrying relief supplies and 22 doctors and ministers from the Church of Scientology — met a 7-year-old boy who had lost his entire family.

"He was walking with a limp because he had been hurt," Travolta, 55, told Us Thursday at the NYC premiere of his new action-thriller From Paris With Love. "All he wanted to do was see the inside of our plane. We took him through and gave him treats and all that stuff. To think that he doesn’t have a family now is pretty rough."

Travolta told Us the good news about the trip is that "everything we brought down, we actually are certain they used because we got a report from our personal doctors. We basically shopped for it, brought it down and then gave them what they needed."

Added Preston, 47, "They're using [supplies] in the hospitals now. They're able to perform surgeries … It's wonderful."

She credits his church with helping organize everything.

Preston said several hundred volunteer ministers flew to Haiti where they "set up tents" and helped out doctors. The ministers aren't providing spiritual counseling; they're helping "more in the physical assists," Travolta told Us.

Travolta posted photos from their trip on his website. One shot shows him and Preston in their specially outfitted vintage Boeing 707, which bears the name "Jett Clipper Ella" in honor of their late son and daughter.

Travolta's From Paris With Love costar Jonathan Rhys Meyers isn't surprised about the actor's noble mission.

"That's who he is as a person!" Meyers, 32, told Us at Thursday's premiere. "He wasn't doing it because, 'Hey, I'm a movie star and I've got an airplane!' He just did it because he's John – and that's just who he is."
