The Andy Griffith Show's Ron Howard can't help but remember his friend and former costar George Lindsey fondly.
In the wake of Lindsey's Sunday passing at age 83, Howard — who played Opie alongside Lindsey's Goober Pyle — took to Twitter to eulogize the late actor.
"George Lindsey: warm, intelligent, lovable. He generated lots of laughs and raised a lot of money for Special Olympics RIP George," Howard wrote on the microblogging site.
Costarring with Lindsey on The Andy Griffith Show from 1960-1968, Howard, 58, also joined Lindsey on the show's sequel series, Mayberry R.F.D.
Howard wasn't the only costar to remember Lindsey with appreciation. Andy Griffith, 85, praised Lindsey's talent and spirit in a statement released Sunday.
"George Lindsey was my friend. I had great respect for his talent and his human spirit," Griffith recalled. "In recent years, we spoke often by telephone. Our last conversation was a few days ago…I am happy to say that as we found ourselves in our eighties, we were not afraid to say, 'I love you.' That was the last thing George and I had to say to each other: 'I love you.'"
Lindsey leaves behind a son, daughter and two grandsons.
