Ousted Designer Takes it Real Hard on Project Runway

On part one of Project Runway's season finale Thursday, the final four designers battled for three coveted spots at New York's Fashion Week. Michael Costello was eliminated, dashing his dreams of presenting his collection on the runway and winning the competition.

The episode's challenge was to present two pieces from the collection they are creating for Fashion Week, plus one additional outfit inspired by their collection. During the show, Tim Gunn paid a visit to the designers' homes to see how they were progressing.

When it came time to send their creations down the runway, the judges were anything but impressed. Still, Mondo Guerra and Gretchen Jones moved on, while Andy South and Costello were left standing on the runway waiting for the axe to fall.

Chastised for creating garments in the same color palette, Costello broke down when South was given a pass. (Watch a clip, above)

Dropping his head in defeat, Costello was virtually unable to make eye-contact with the judges, and left the runway sobbing.

Once backstage, the floodgates opened wide. Costello punched the wall and crumbled in a pool of tears.

"I don't know how to go home and tell my mother and father that I didn't make it," the designer said, as he was comforted by Runway mentor Gunn.

The season finale of Lifetime's Project Runway airs Oct. 28 at 9 p.m. (EST).
