Mia Michaels: Why I’m Returning to So You Think You Can Dance

Three months after announcing her departure from Fox's So You Think You Can Dance, fan favorite choreographer Mia Michaels is back — at least for one episode.

Opting to leave the show after five seasons to pursue other opportunities that include penning a book and developing a choreography show, Michaels returned to guest-judge season 7's New York City auditions Jan. 26.

But her prolonged involvement as a SYTYCD judge and choreographer remains a mystery.

"We'll see…I'm taking it day-by-day," the Emmy winning Michaels told UsMagazine.com of her plans for additional appearances on the series. In her time away from the show, Michaels says she has still indulged her passion for motivating and teaching dancers.

"As a choreographer, we get so about our vision that it becomes very selfish and when you teach it's about other people, so it's a good balance," she explains.

Executive producer Nigel Lythgoe says he welcomes to opportunity to work with Michaels again — on SYTYCD or otherwise.

"I want to produce a Mia Michaels show for the stage," Lythgoe tells Us. "We've spoken about doing tours and everything, and it's just really pinning [logistics] down. When you've got a brilliant artist like Mia, you just want to find ways of showing her art and expressing it."
