Celebs Celebrate Gay Marriage Legalization in New York

Justice and equality for New York!

Friday night, New York governor Andrew Cuomo signed the state's marriage equality bill after it passed in the senate with a 33-to-29 vote. Immediately after, celebrities took to Twitter to celebrate progress in the northeast!

"I can't stop crying," Lady Gaga tweeted. "We did it kids… The revolution is ours to fight for love, justice and equality. Rejoice, New York, and propose. We did it!"

Neil Patrick Harris, who has two children with his partner David Burtka, tweeted a plea to the senate earlier in the day Friday. "I'd sure love to get married," he wrote. "Please, New York Senate, vote in favor of marriage equality today. My family would really appreciate it."

Following the passage of gay marriage, the How I Met Your Mother star exclaimed: "IT PASSED! Marriage equality in New York! Yes! Progress! Thank you everyone who worked so hard on this! A historic night!

Comedian Steve Martin celebrated the news as well. "Alec Baldwin, now we can get married!" he joked.

"OK, but if you play that effing banjo after eleven o'clock," Baldwin, 53, quipped. More seriously, the 30 Rock actor congratulated LGBT activist Cynthia Nixon "for all her hard work on behalf of marriage equality."

When a fan critically asked Baldwin if he'd "read the Bible," the actor replied: "It's all cool, honey. Jesus is down with the gay marriage thing. He called me. In fact, he's very happy."

Other celebs who voiced their support for equality? Katy Perry, Lance Bass, Lea Michele, Kathy Griffin, John Legend and Josh Groban.
