Mariah Carey vs. Nicki Minaj: The Drama Heats Up

Mariah Carey of "American Idol" speaks onstage during the FOX portion of the 2013 Winter TCA Tour at Langham Hotel on January 8, 2013 in Pasadena, California.

The Mariah Carey eye roll says it all.

Despite saying today at Fox’s Television Critics Association (TCA) panel that she and fellow new “American Idol” judge Nicki Minaj have buried the hatchet, it’s clear that this diva rivalry has only just begun.

Carey opened up to Barbara Walters in a new interview that aired last night on ABC’s “Nightline” about the headlining moment last fall when Minaj reportedly threatened to shoot her.

“It felt like an unsafe work environment,” the “Triumphant” singer told Walters. “Anytime anybody’s reeling threats at somebody, that’s not appropriate. Sitting there on the road with two babies, I’m not gonna take any chances, so yeah, I did hire more security.”

Walters, then reads back lyrics from Minaj’s new single, “Hell Yeah” (which is about “American Idol”), and really, watching Walters recite this line (at the 4:23 mark) is simply priceless.

“I’m quick to check a bitch if she is out of line,” Walters quotes. “Are you the bitch?” she then asks Carey.

“Don’t know,” Carey responds, with the aforementioned dramatic eye roll. “Don’t know what she’s singing. I didn’t know she sang, I thought she rapped, or whatever, mmmm…”

“Do you think this is detracting from ‘American Idol’?” asks Walters.

“I think it’s a classic, classy show, and it didn’t need this,” replies Carey.

Yahoo! TV’s Dave Nemetz was at the Fox TCA panel on Tuesday and reports that although both Carey and Minaj claimed that the feud was over, there was underlying tension throughout. At one point, Carey called the feud "one-sided," and Minaj snapped back, "No, it wasn't."

"This is a very passionate panel … a lot of strong personalities,” Carey continued.

Well, “passionate” is certainly one way to label it!

One thing is for sure … We feel sorry for Keith Urban, this season’s other new “Idol” judge, who’s stuck sitting in between the two super-divas (veteran judge Randy Jackson also returns again this season).
