Tony Goldwyn and Kerry Washington
Tony Goldwyn opened up to Us Weekly on Thursday, June 19, about working with Kerry Washington and seeing Columbus Short leave.

Aw, Fitz! Tony Goldwyn divulged behind the scenes secrets from the set of Scandal to Us Weekly at the Paley Center and WeTV presentation of On The Beat: The Evolution of the Crime Drama Heroine, Thursday, June 19. The handsome star, 54, who plays President Fitzgerald Grant on the smash series, joked that there is a caveat to working with Kerry Washington.

"It's fantastic," he told Us of the "amazing" new mother, "except that she teases me constantly!" In fact, Goldwyn added of the entire tight-knit cast: "Everyone makes fun of me… but it's really great." Goldwyn will direct the 11th episode of Scandal's upcoming fourth season, which begins filming at the end of July.

There will be, however, one noticeable cast mate missing from the usual crew of Gladiators. Goldwyn told Us he would miss working with actor Columbus Short, who announced his exit from the series in April. "He's great," Goldwyn said of Short, who played Harrison Wright from seasons one through three. "But on Scandal, like what happened to Dan Bucatinsky [and his character James Novak] last year, you never know when we're gonna survive!"

Short, who was a member of Olivia Pope's inner circle, told Us in a statement that he was thankful to have worked alongside his fellow cast members. "At this time I must confirm my exit from a show I've called home for 3 years, with what is the most talented ensemble on television today," the 31-year-old said after being arrested on a felony battery charge in February.

Though Goldwyn was sad to see Short go, he said the crew is still faithful to show creator Shonda Rhimes. "We're all just so thrilled to be a part of it," he gushed. "Every day we just trust in Shonda, she's great. There's always a good surprise."
