Royal Wedding Dress Designer Sarah Burton: Kate Is “Low Maintenance”

Kate Middleton

It's true that Duchess Catherine is in for a lifetime of royal treatment, but one source says that the the newlywed is "down to earth".

Sarah Burton, creative director for Alexander McQueen and the designer behind the 29-year-old's buzzed-about wedding gown, said that the Duchess "couldn't have been more lovely" during their time working together, according to Page Six.

Burton, 36, was posed with a slew of Middleton-related questions from shoppers at a Saks Fifth Avenue meet and greet in NYC Tuesday. The designer went on to say that the Duchess and her sister, Pippa, were "really nice and down to earth."

News outlets were buzzing over the Duchess's composure during the April 29 royal wedding, saying the bride was "graceful, comfortable, and a natural." But as calm, cool, and collected as the newlywed appeared, nothing could beat the awestruck look on her beaming face as she stepped out onto the Buckingham Palace balcony with Prince William and her wedding party. "Wow," she said of the sprawling crowd who was awaiting the couple's first kiss.

Another testament to her girl-next-door attribute is her penchant for affordable fashion finds. She was seen in a cerulean $90 Zara dress the day after her wedding, and just last month was spotted picking up pieces ranging from $79 to $109 at the London-based shop Warehouse.
