Kinda amazing.

The Amazing Spider-Man, the reboot of the comic book franchise starring Andrew Garfield in the title role plus real-life love Emma Stone, ruled the box office weekend with an estimated gross of $65 million, EW.com reports. Since its July 4 release, the $220 million action-adventure has made $140 million in the U.S.; worldwide, it has made $341.2 million so far.

The well-reviewed flick debuted with slightly smaller numbers than earlier films in the franchise starring Tobey Maguire (2007's Spider-Man 3 grabbed $176.2 million in six days), but the still-impressive bow bodes well for inevitable Spider-Man sequels starring Garfield and company.

Last week's victor, Mark Wahlberg's Ted, landed in second with $32.6 million, followed by Pixar's Brave, earning another $20.2 million for its third weekend out.

The other premieres of the weekend didn't live up to expectations: Savages, Oliver Stone's thriller starring Blake Lively, Taylor Kitsch and others, bowed at a weak $16.2 million, landing in fourth place. At number five in its second week was Channing Tatum's buzzed-about stripper flick Magic Mike, earning an additional $15.6 million.
