Young and Beautiful and totally honest! Lana Del Rey opened up to Complex magazine in its August/September 2014 issue, and said that sleeping her way to the top did not work for her.
While addressing her track, "F—ed My Way Up to the Top," Del Rey, 29, said that unlike the self-explanatory title, her reality was a different scenario. "It's commentary, like, 'I know what you think of me,' and I'm alluding to that," the Ultraviolence singer mused. "You know, I have slept with a lot of guys in the industry, but none of them helped me get my record deals. Which is annoying."
Shifting gears to more old-fashioned romance, Del Rey said the worst advice she's ever received was "love doesn’t come easily and that relationships are supposed to be a struggle." The New York native confessed that she was the one to destroy her last relationship to her boyfriend/fiance of three years, Barrie-James O'Neill.
"Definitely demolished that through tons of depression and insecurity," Del Rey said. "Now it's just an untenable relationship, impossible because of my emotional instability… The world was heavy for a couple years."
Indeed, Del Rey incited controversy last month when she told The Guardian, "I wish I was dead already… I don't want to have to keep doing this. But I am." A few days later, she reaffirmed to the New York Times that she was "scared to die, but I want to die."
"I am a little f—ed up. This whole experience has f—ed me up," Del Rey told Complex about grappling with depression. "I don't feel like things have gone well. It’s not the way I would have chosen them to go. So it’s not like I feel everything's turned around and it’s great."
The singer, though, has moved on since her split. In early July, Del Rey was snapped getting affectionate with her rumored new guy, fashion photographer Francesco Carrozzini.
On what she now looks for in a relationship, Del Rey explained: "I like a physical love. I like a hands-on love… How can I say this without getting into too much trouble? I like a tangible, passionate love. For me, if it isn't physical, I'm not interested."
