Russell Neal, a singer in the 1990s R&B group Hi-Five, is facing murder charges in connection with the death of his wife, Catherine Martinez, local news in Houston, Tex., reported Friday, July 4.
Neal, 40—whose group had a No. 1 hit in 1991 with "I Like the Way (The Kissing Game)"—was arrested on July 3 when he reportedly walked into a Harris County Sheriff's Office station and said that his wife was dead inside their apartment in west Houston. He then apparently asked for a lawyer.
Investigators told local news KHOU that Martinez, 24, suffered multiple stab wounds and blunt force trauma. According to TMZ, Neal is now being held in jail on a $100K bond.
Neighbors said the couple—who have two young kids—seemed, for the most part, "happy" before the incident. One told KHOU that Neal was "a great father."
