Ew! John Cusack Drinks Hand Sanitizer with Jimmy Kimmel

Don’t try this at home!

After hearing about the new trend amongst teens of drinking hand sanitizer to get drunk, John Cusack decided to try it out on Jimmy Kimmel Live Tuesday night.

The 45-year-old actor stars in The Raven, opening in theaters Friday, and received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame Tuesday.

“I think maybe we should celebrate that and Cinco de Mayo maybe by…having a little shot?” Cusack asked, pointing to the hand sanitizer sitting on Jimmy Kimmel‘s desk. “You and me.”

“Oh a Purell shot? Really?” Kimmel asked. “I should point out that this is not a planned thing so we did not think ahead to put some fake Purell in there.”

Cusack and Kimmel each took a squeeze of Purell directly into their mouths and followed it with a chaser of water. “Wow, that’s terrible,” Kimmel said while making a disgusted face. “These kids are really determined to get drunk.”

“That’s a first,” Cusack agreed. Later in the show Cusack asked Kimmel, “Do you feel the Purell kicking in?”

“I feel cleaner inside,” Kimmel said. Cusack agreed, adding, “It’s lemony. It’s fresh.”

New reports came out his week that 16 teens in the Los Angeles area have been treated for alcohol poisoning after drinking hand sanitizer. Some teens were reportedly distilling the products using salt to separate the alcohol.

“If a person has never had alcohol before, they can get drunk almost instantaneously,” Dr. Calvin Lowe told NBC Los Angeles. “It’s very, very dangerous.”
