Justin Bieber Avoids Jail in DUI Plea Deal

Justin Bieber
Justin Bieber made a plea deal on Wednesday, Aug. 13, to avoid jail time for his DUI arrest stemming from the drag-racing incident in Miami.

Justin Bieber is cruising away from some serious charges.

The 20-year-old made a plea deal on Wednesday to avoid jail time for his DUI arrest stemming from the Lamborghini drag-racing incident in Miami in January. The "Baby" singer was not in court as his legal team entered a guilty plea to careless driving and resisting an officer without violence, allowing him to skate from the serious charge against him: DUI.

As for his punishment, Bieber will have to take 12 hours of anger management, pay court costs, and make a $50,000 donation to charity. (FYI: The Biebs earned $80 million last year, according to Forbes, so $50,000 is virtual pocket change.)

Bieber's legal team has become quite adept at making legal deals to keep him from behind bars. Last month, the Grammy-nominated singer pleaded no contest to misdemeanor vandalism charges for egging his neighbor's home in Calabasas, California. He's serving two years of probation in that case, taking anger management, and paid the victim $80,900 in restitution.

The young star's attorneys have just one more criminal case to resolve for him. In January, he was charged with assault in Toronto after allegedly hitting a limo driver.

Bieber's Miami DUI arrest played out in the headlines at the start of the year. Then 19, he was pulled over in a yellow Lamborghini while drag racing with his friend Khalil Amir Sharieff, who was also arrested, at 4 a.m. Bieber, who was traveling with a model named Chantel Jeffries at the time, failed a sobriety test, according to police. The star, who admitted he smoked pot prior to getting pulled over, then became belligerent with police, dropping F-bombs galore, and was also charged with resisting arrest without violence and driving with an expired driver's license.

Footage of him at Miami-Dade County Jail later went viral because it featured the young star doing push-ups in his cell. When he was released, he climbed atop his waiting black SUV — similar to Michael Jackson after he pleaded not guilty to child molestation charges — and waved to fans. It was certainly one of the more dramatic celebrity arrests we've seen in recent years.

One would think Bieber would be tired out from all his personal drama — he also has civil lawsuits pending against him — but he added to it last month by getting into an altercation with Orlando Bloom at a restaurant/bar in Ibiza, Spain. In recent weeks, he's also been partying with the Kardashians a bit — first at Givenchy designer Riccardo Tisci's birthday party in Ibiza, then at Kylie Jenner's 17th birthday bash over the weekend.
