Twilight Fan Killed Crossing Street at Comic-Con

Fans are seen outside the San Diego Convention Center during the second day of the Comic-Con International convention held in San Diego.

Tragedy struck Comic-Con Tuesday when a Twilight fan was hit by a car and killed.

According to The Associated Press, a 53-year-old woman, identified as Gisella G., was crossing the street to wait in line for a Twilight panel at San Diego Convention Center.

San Diego Police Lt. Andra Brown said the woman "ran into the middle of Harbor Drive and tried to stop in her tracks but it was too late." He also said the 67-year-old driver who hit the woman stayed at the scene for questioning and will not be cited. 

The woman had reportedly been waiting in line since Sunday for The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2 panel on Thursday.

Twilight's film distributors, Lionsgate and Summit Entertainment, released a statement Tuesday saying, "Lionsgate, Summit and the entire 'Twilight' community are saddened by the death of a Comic-Con fan today due to a traffic accident during the hours leading up to this year's convention in San Diego. Our thoughts and condolences go out to the victim's family and friends. She will be respectfully remembered this Thursday in Hall H."

Summit also tweeted, "We are saddened by today's tragic loss. Our thoughts and condolences go out to her loved ones. She will be remembered this Thursday at Comic-Con."

Twilight actress Nikki Reed and Ashley Greene also tweeted their condolences. "This is horrible," Reed, 24, wrote. "So sad. I'm speechless."

Greene, 25, added, "I'm so sorry to hear the devastating news about Gisella G. My thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends."
