Michael Lohan — who spent three years in prison after being convicted of insider trading — has a few words of advice for his daughter, Lindsay, who will report to jail on July 20 for 90 days.

"It's not going to be a good experience for her. Right now, she should be working on rectifying the situation and getting better," Michael, who has long maintained that Lindsay's troubles stem from a prescription drug addiction (which she has denied), told UsMagazine.com in NYC Thursday night.

"It's just a horrible experience. Twenty-three hours a day, she'll be locked up," added Michael, who spoke to Us after a romantic dinner with fiancee Kate Major at STK restaurant. "I'm going to get her out of that cell as much as I can. And Kate will be there, and we'll work to get her out of that cell as much as possible."

Michael says Lindsay, 24, is currently refusing to speak to him "because she knows I still want to throw her in [rehab]. I've been trying to tell her how much I love her, that I'm behind her, that when she's ready, I'm ready to help her."

Continues Michael, "If she would just realize that what she's taking is toxic…. Dina has denied that Lindsay is on prescription meds. Lindsay has denied that she is on prescription meds. Her friends have. Everyone has! And look at her! They're lying."

According to a TMZ.com report, Lindsay will be allowed to continue taking several prescription drugs while wearing her SCRAM bracelet and in jail.

Michael has a few words for his ex wife, too: "Dina should be concentrating on helping Lindsay get off of the prescription drugs instead of stealing Fudgy the Whales from Carvel!"

He says it was important for him to be in the court room when the judge sentenced his daughter.

"I had a feeling that Lindsay might go to jail and I wanted to be there for her, but I wanted to be there, more importantly, to submit the letter to the judge in hopes that she would just give her rehab, which she did consider and I appreciate that," he tells Us. "But at the same time, Lindsay is not a criminal. She is a woman with a disease. She really is. She needs help. She needs medical attention."
