Britney Spears Dyes Her Hair Brown: All the Details!

Britney Spears
Singer Britney Spears arrives at the 21st Annual Elton John AIDS Foundation's Oscar Viewing Party on February 24, 2013 in Los Angeles, California.

It's (brunette) Britney, bitch! Famously blonde pop star Britney Spears debuted darker locks at Elton John's annual Academy Awards viewing party in West Hollywood Feb. 24. Her new 'do elicited an overwhelmingly positive response from Us Weekly readers, who said "she looks so much younger" and "the color is beautiful on her."

The 31-year-old pop star, who turned heads at the star-studded soiree in a cleavage-baring Michael Cinco gown, had been toying with the idea of changing her hair color for "about a month," Spears' colorist, Brittany Hunter from Mark Slicker Salon, told E! News. "We wanted to make sure she was going to be committed to it before we made the change as it can be a difficult process going from light blonde to brunette," Hunter explained. "We started the process on Thursday and then finished it up on Sunday. We wanted to make sure the color was going to stick and it wasn't going to fade."

Spears — who went brunette in 2006, 2007 and twice in 2009 — pulled pictures from magazines as inspiration. "I wanted to keep her as close to her natural color as possible, so not too dark," Hunter said. "In the end we went with a very natural and rich light brown. We wanted the right tone that would complement her skin color."

The "Scream & Shout" singer "was very happy with the result," Hunter added. "She was just ready for a change. Going from blonde to brunette can be difficult, and I am very particular about making sure that I get the color level just right. I wanted to look after the health of her hair at the same time."

The single mother of two, who recently split with fiance Jason Trawick, may stay on the dark side for awhile. "I do think she will stick with it," Hunter told E! News. "She seems very happy."
