Paul Wesley had the scare of his life on Friday the 13th.

The Vampire Diaries actor, 29, and his wife Torrey DeVitto, 27, "were flying to Toronto for a quick 24-hour trip, and we had a really amazing thing happen: Our plane got struck by lightning," Wesley said on LIVE! With Kelly Monday. "There was a huge burst of light and this loud [noise]."

Worried that the plane "was going down," Wesley looked to his fellow passengers for comfort. "Who do I see? Joan Rivers! She's just sitting there staring at me."

"I thought, 'This is it. I'm going down with Joan Rivers,'" Wesley continued. "'This is going to be my final hurrah. My goodbye.'"

Host Kelly Ripa, 41, then said: "I would be reassured by that. I would be like, 'You know what? God would not take a national treasure like Joan Rivers away from us, so we are fine."

Wesley said he envisioned news clippings that would make him "forever associated" with the comedienne, 78.

Rivers, of course, put a comedic spin on the terrifying flight experience. "I just landed on a plane from L.A. that was struck by lightning," she tweeted Friday. "Thank God everyone is fine. I now think Benjamin Franklin was an ass!"
