There’s a new diva in town! Broadway veteran Andrew Rannells is returning to the Great White Way in Hedwig and the Angry Inch, taking over the lead role of the drag queen rocker Hedwig from Tony winner Neil Patrick Harris.
The first poster of Rannells in drag was released, featuring the New Normal star in blue glitter eye shadow and sparkly red lipstick. Rannells was nominated for a Tony for his role in the Book of Mormon back in 2011.
“I am beyond thrilled to be joining ?@HedwigOnBway? ?@LenaRockerHall? & ?@TitsofClay? on 8/20,” the actor tweeted on Sunday, July 20. “Thank you, ?@MichaelMayerDIR? ?@LenaRockerHall? ?@TitsofClay? ?@HedwigOnBway? for an amazing rehearsal today! It was my first time in fishnets. :)”
Back in June, Harris accepted his first Tony Award for playing Hedwig.
“To my kids Harper and Gideon, I am so sorry that I haven’t been able to spend as much time with you as I wish I could, given the show. I promise as soon as this is done I’ll be able to read books to you and put you to sleep,” he said in his acceptance speech.
