No limo or taxi cab for this single mom in the city!
On Monday evening, Katie Holmes celebrated the first preview performance of her new Broadway play Dead Accounts in extremely low-key fashion: She rode the NYC subway!
Clad in sunglasses and a winter coat with her hair up in a bun, the 33-year-old sat next to her subway and another anonymous rider during her journey. (Before swiping her MTA card, the newly divorced mom to Suri, 6, had feted her first run-through of the show with a small after-party with costars Judy Greer, Norbert Leo Butz and Josh Hamilton — with whom she shared a passionate onstage kiss during a pivotal scene.)
Holmes — who divorced Tom Cruise back in September — is just one of millions of New Yorkers riding the Big Apple's MTA after days of an all-out shutdown following the devastating Superstorm Sandy.
Indeed, Dead Accounts' first preview had been scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 3, but the storm pushed back the date by a couple of days. Holmes and Suri withstood the storm in their rented, $12,000-a-month Chelsea home until a loss of power forced them to move temporarily into a nearby hotel.
Marvels one observer of Holmes' demeanor with her castmates: "She's got her personal stuff going on, but she leaves that at the door. Behind the scenes, she's a funny, loving girl, not an ounce of diva in her."
