Fair is fair. Taylor Swift has given her exes her blessing to write songs about her, too. The 23-year-old "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together" singer is famous for her chart-topping breakup hits inspired by ex-boyfriends like John Mayer, Taylor Lautner, Joe Jonas and others, and Swift says the relationship songwriting doesn't have to stay one-sided.
"If I'm gonna write songs about my exes they can write songs about me," she tells the April issue of InStyle UK magazine. "That's how it works."
"I'm not gonna complain about it," she adds. "I'm not gonna sit there and say, 'I'm the only one who can write songs about this relationship.' It's fair game."
Swift recently led her fans to believe that she may already be writing a breakup song about her most recent ex, Harry Styles. "Back in the studio. Uh oh . . . " she tweeted cryptically on Jan. 10.
The country singer's whirlwind romance with the 19-year-old One Direction boy bander ended in early January after a fight erupted on their vacation in the British Virgin Islands' Virgin Gorda.
"[Harry] said something he shouldn't have," one insider told Us. "This [breakup] is definitely going to be for good."
But Styles seems to playing nice after the split. The British singer told Us Weekly that his ex's performance at the Brit Awards on Feb. 20 at London's 02 Arena was "great!" He added, "She always puts on a good show.
