Reality check! Moving in with her parents after a divorce is a bitter pill to swallow for newly single mom Polly (Sarah Chalke) on ABC’s new sitcom How to Live With Your Parents (for the Rest of Your Life). Not just because she’d never thought she’d return to their home full-time, but because she’s also got her daughter, Natalie, in tow.
Eager to be a modern parent, Polly ends up falling into the helicopter mom category — at least in the eyes of her parents Elaine and Max (Elizabeth Perkins and Brad Garrett). Case in point: This preview from the comedy’s April 3 premiere, which finds Polly unwilling to leave Natalie with her parents for the night — at least not without a laundry list of to-dos.
“Here’s a list of Natalie’s favorite TV shows and I made her dinner. It just has to be heated up,” Scrubs alum Chalke — herself the mom of son Charlie, 3 — says breathlessly in the clip above. “She gets her bath at 7 and then she has to be in bed at 8. When I say 8, I mean 8 — and when I say bed, I mean you have to stay with her until she falls asleep.”
Everybody Loves Raymond alum Garrett isn’t impressed with his daughter’s attention to detail. “This is endless!” he yelps.
As Polly finally heads for the door leaving Elaine and Max to tend to Natalie (Rachel Eggleston), the older, eccentric couple know their granddaughter will be clean and fed, but wonder how she’ll stay entertained.
Wonders Elaine to Max: “What are we going to talk to her about? Kids are boring. We’re the fascinating ones!”
How to Live With Your Parents (for the Rest of Your Life) premieres Wednesday, April 3 at 9:30 p.m. (EST) on ABC.
