Tina Fey and Amy Poehler earned rave reviews for their joint hosting gig at this years Golden Globes, but the Saturday Night Live alums won't be taking their act to the Oscars in 2014.
During this year's Academy Awards, Star Trek's William Shatner spoke to Seth MacFarlane "from the future" and warned the Family Guy creator (presciently, it turns out) that his first-ever hosting gig would be poorly received. "Why couldn't they get Tina and Amy to host?" he quoted MacFarlane's future critics as saying.
Speaking to The Huffington Post, Fey joked that "it's an honor to be 'Shatnered'" but added that she has no intention of following in MacFarlane's footsteps. After being widely criticized for his off-color jokes, the 39-year-old comedian tweeted on Feb. 26 that there is "no way" he'll ever do it again.
"I just feel like that gig is so hard," the 42-year-old Admission star explained. "Especially for, like, a woman — the amount of months that would be spent trying on dresses alone . . . No way." Recent hosts include Billy Crystal, James Franco, Anne Hathaway, Alec Baldwin, Steve Martin, Hugh Jackman, Jon Stewart and Ellen DeGeneres.
Adding that she and Poehler, 41, "had fun" co-hosting the Golden Globes, Fey said there's little hope she'll change her mind about emceeing next year's Oscars. "I wish I could tell you there was," she said.
Fey, however, has no intention of slowing down. Though the NBC comedy 30 Rock ended after seven seasons in January, the Bossypants author will begin shooting the next Muppets movie in March — the same month Admission opens in theaters. In addition to developing another sitcom for NBC, Fey will shoot a movie called Mail Order Groom this summer. The project will reunite the comedienne with Steve Carell, who played her husband in 2010's Date Night.
