Ex-squeeze me? It’s been 21 years since Dana Carvey and Mike Myers brought their SNL characters, Garth and Wayne, to the big screen, and the entire cast gathered in Beverly Hills for an Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences screening of their 1992 cult hit, Wayne’s World. Party on!
The two funnymen were joined by Rob Lowe, 49, who played slimy TV exec Benjamin Kane in the film, and Tia Carrere, 46, who played Wayne’s hot love interest, Cassandra. Lara Flynn Boyle, 43, who played accident-prone Stacy, was also on hand at the event.
According to Deadline.com, the reunion was especially noteworthy because it brought together Carvey, Myers, and director Penelope Spheeris after years of tension between them. Myers, 49, reportedly butted heads with Spheeris on set, and Carvey, 57, later accused Myers of copying one of his voices for Myers’ Dr. Evil character (of the Austin Powers movies).
The conflicts didn’t come up at the panel discussion, but Myers did open up about what he was dealing with in his personal life during that year. “To be honest with you I don’t remember that year at all,” he said. “I remember finishing the film, then I remember my dad dying. Then I just remember Dana and I being strapped to the front of a rocket and me putting on 25 pounds eating my way through it.”
