Shiri Appleby and Jon Shook are now the proud parents of a baby girl, the Girls guest star tells Us Weekly exclusively. The engaged couple welcomed their little one on Saturday, March 23, in L.A. "She's heaven," Appleby says of her daughter. "I'm beyond thrilled."

Appleby — who also appears on NBC's Chicago Fireannounced her pregnancy in December, just five months after the L.A. Animal chef popped the question during a trip to Ventotene, Italy.

The couple agreed not to find out their child's gender until Appleby gave birth. "It's really made the whole pregnancy a heightened excitement because you just don't know what it's going to be," the actress told Us in 2012.

The future spouses spent the next few months decorating their little one's nursery using monochromatic colors. "We got a chandelier, we got a rug and we're looking for drapes. . .We don't want it to look too much like a baby's room," Appleby explained. "We're both on the same page about how we want it to look."

The Roswell alum also praised 31-year-old Shook for being a supportive and calming influence throughout her pregnancy. "When you see this guy going to all the doctor's appointments with you, and you tell him you're feeling a certain way, and two minutes later he's looked it up on the internet to tell you that it's normal, you realize that you're really starting a family with somebody," Appleby gushed to Us. "There's no way to look at that person and not be more in love."

Appleby and Shook plan to enjoy the first few months with their daughter before they finalize the details surrounding their nuptials. "We're planning on doing a big wedding after the baby is born," said the star, whose other notable TV and film credits include Life Unexpected, Charlie Wilson's War and Swimfan. Though she won't be changing her name professionally, she will be taking the foodie's surname legally: "Shiri Shook has a nice ring to it!"
